Pond Walks

Welcome to the Illiana Garden Pond Walk 2007

Eagle Park Community School in Crown Point, Indiana

Pond #8

This pond was designed and built by the Illiana Garden Pond Society and then donated to the school in 2006. Since then, the school has been doing improvement projects. They have painted the pond and added informational areas for other schools to visit and learn about the mini ecosystem. The pond is above ground and measures 20' by 10'. The pond has approximately 800 gallons of crystal clear water and is in a protected area with skylights. The pond hosts several Koi and goldfish and has a detailed backdrop of a pastoral landscape. Students and staff have been working hard to naturalize the planting areas around the pond. Last year we had a more tropical theme. The pond is surrounded by Hosta, mosses and maiden hair ferns. Because the pond is an educational tool used by the school, parts of the pond are designed for science research.
